HOW WERE THE POP COLOURS DEVISED?

Pop Paint is supplied in a range of brilliant colours based on the Pantone standard. They were developed in collaboration with fine artists, designers and chemists with research into modern colour trends. All future colours will be based on this criteria.

HOW DO I USE POP?

Quick and easy to apply, Pop seldom requires surface preparation and brushes can be cleaned with just soap and water. Depending on your application, you can apply Pop with a brush, roller or sponge.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WAIT BETWEEN APPLICATIONS?

Apply the first coat of Pop evenly and then leave to dry before applying a second coat. Allow the paint to dry overnight before applying Pop Décor Wax for that professional finish.

CAN POP BE USED OUTDOORS?

Yes, as long as our waterproof and dustproof topcoat, Pop Décor Wax, is used to seal the project.

HOW DO I APPLY POP DÉCOR WAX?

You can either paint it on with a brush or wipe it on using a mutton cloth in gentle, circular motions. Remember to leave the Pop Paint on overnight before applying the Pop Décor Wax.

I’VE NOTICED SOME PAINT RUBS OFF WHEN APPLYING THE POP DÉCOR WAX, WHY?

It’s essential that the paint dries before applying Pop Décor Wax. Drying time will vary depending on weather conditions. A fan or dryer may be used to speed up the process. The wax should be applied with a wide soft brush or gently wiped on with a soft cloth. A sandpapering motion is not advisable.

DO I NEED TO ADD A BASE COAT AND IF SO WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

Pop very rarely needs any surface preparation. A light sanding beforehand can make a visible difference though.

HOW DO I PROTECT MY POP PROJECTS?

A top coat will be required for exterior dust and waterproofing. We recommend using our Pop Décor Wax to seal your project, which will extend its life and allow for it to be wiped and cleaned without discolouring over time.

CAN I USE A SPRAY GUN TO APPLY POP?

Yes, a spray gun can be used when diluted. Dilation will reduce opacity and that because this is a water-based paint, you need to thin out the paint with water, not thinners.

CAN POP BE USED ON FABRIC?

Yes, depending on what fabric or item you would like to paint. Remember that Pop is a water-based paint and it can therefore run or fade when washed. Also, where fabric paint dries with a soft handle Pop dries stiff.

CAN POP BE USED ON METAL AND GLASS?

Yes. Because metal and glass repel water, a primer is required to prep these surfaces. Sand each surface with fine sandpaper and then use a primer first. After painting, allow to dry for at least 24hours and finish off with Pop Décor Wax to seal.

IS POP SAFE FOR KIDS?

Yes, Pop is non-toxic and safe for kids.

HOW IS POP NON-TOXIC WHEN OTHER PAINT IS HARMFUL?

Traditionally manufacturers use heavy metals in paint as a preservative and to improve flowability. These inorganic chemicals such as lead, chrome, arsenic and mercury have been banned for use in most household applications.

WHAT’S POP MADE FROM?

Pop Paint is made with nontoxic organic pigments, approved by the FDA for use in paint and textiles. To claim a product is nontoxic means the product is not harmful when used for the application for which it was intended. After drying there are no salts or residues which leach out of the surface which means if a person were to touch the surface and lick their fingers there would be no harmful effect.

DOES POP MEET SABS STANDARDS?

Yes. Certification of Conformance for Pop Paint: ISO9001:2015 Registration No QMS171137-01 confirms that all materials used in the manufacture of Pop Paint are supplied under the ISO9001:2015 regulation and the SABS standard.

WHAT’S POP’S CHEMICAL COMPOSITION?

Water, calcium carbonate (2 micron), formaldehyde free polymer, elasticizers, emulsifiers, lead-free antioxidants, mercury-free preservatives, organic (FDA approved) pigments, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, carbon black.

I BOUGHT A SECOND JAR OF THE SAME COLOUR POP PAINT AND THE TONES WERE DIFFERENT, WHY?

We do our best at all times to ensure consistency of colour across batches and we are usually effective in this regard. However, on certain occasions there are differences that cannot be helped, such as the time the product has spent on the shelf. While every effort is made to ensure the Pop colours do not change, it’s only in an ideal situation that the raw materials and pigments are constant. This however is not the case and so the formulation has to constantly be adjusted. Bearing this in mind we continue to compare each batch with the Pantone standard.
